Our general research interests are the factors that describe group dynamics and predict team performance, with a focus on individual differences, motivation, as well as goal commitment. Our research mainly situates in the organizational behavior discipline, although the work builds on various disciplines including psychology, social psychology, management, and communication. We employ quantitative methods, such as surveys, lab experiments, field experiments, and content analysis, as well as qualitative methods to study human behaviors at micro and meso-levels. Below are the outline our five main research areas:

Team Collaboration Models and Synergy

We examine different kinds of team collaboration models and their influence on team synergy.

Motivation Loss Problem

This research offers new ways of addressing the common problem of free-riding behaviors in organizations by aiming at peers’ interaction and communication in addition to top-down managerial approaches.

Individual Difference and Teamwork

We examine the influence of individual differences in work habit preferences on group decision-making process and team performance.

Goal-setting, Goal commitment, Feedback, and Productivity

We integrate the research on goal-setting with the recent research findings on self-regulation of goal pursuit to study how to motivate employees in organizations.

Innovation in Public Sector Organizations

The objective of this research is to encourage innovation in public sector organizations, which have become fossilized, through the approach of interpersonal interactions
